Awesome game. Simply no other word for it. And to finally get to belt out that club song, well it still sends tingles down the spine. We got off to a flyer with Shano Doherty, scooping up a couple of early goals putting us into the early lead, never to be headed for the game. Given the way our season has gone, we never felt comfortable on the bench, but it was great to really enjoy the final minutes of the game and seeing the smiles on the Masters faces. Long time coming.
A couple of late withdrawals to key talls in Grimmo & Gags plus early injuries to a couple more key talls in Barks & Hyph, certainly sent us some testing times, but thanks to Razor and Rugby for offering to sit on our bench to help out, but ending up playing the majority of the game in key defensive and attacking positions. Both played fantastic games and along with Vaughanny and Parksy, really gave us some flexibility on the bench. The midfield was terrific all day with Mouse & Scotty Hollow getting to so many contests and playing rippers, along with support from Trev Mayne & Muph in the middle. Noons killed them on his wing and I thought Byron’s attack on the ball all day set a great standard. The skipper dashing (yes dashing) off the half back line led by example and I thought it very fitting that he kicked our final goal of the game. It’s been a tough year to be skipper, but Morrey has held his head high and led by example. His attack on the ball was fierce.
Special mention to Mouse who seems to think he is Dane Swan. I see no likeness!! Special mention to Morgs, who did one of the best Floyd Mayweather impersonations we have seen in quite some time. Special mention to Matty J & Leon for running water for us. Special mention to Tommy on the whiteboard, who seems to think his beanie is a fashion statement. And last special mention to the coach, Biscuits, who gets a fine W as reward for a long toiling season.
Great win Raiders and one of the great renditions of the club song. Awesome.
