Barx’s Blurb – Reserves Match Report rd 1, 2019

15/04/2019

The Reserves took on Cranbourne in round 1, which was always going to be a good hit out and gauge on where the group was at.

We started off the game well and brought good pressure and contest to the opposition, this continued into the second quarter where our backline and midfield worked together well and the forwards benefited.

At halftime we discussed the importance of continuing the momentum, being accountable at every contest and to continue to look for our key ball users at every opportunity, however our plan didn’t come to fruition due to some sore and tiring bodies, losing Chanty to a dubious green card and probably missing one or two on ball rotations due to some unavailability and last minute omissions.

Cranbourne seemed to link up well through the lines in the second half and took advantage of every scoring opportunity that they worked for, eventually running out winners by 14 points.

That said we know Cranbourne will be one of the  benchmark sides in our competition, the boys can keep their heads held high as there were good signs all day, and great play from a number of players around the ground, we had 4 good inside 50’s in the last quarter to no avail, footy can sometimes be a luckless game and if we converted 3 of the 4 we would be talking about a different result.

The Reserves will only build from this and with some more key inclusions over coming weeks and a few blokes better for the run, we shouldn’t be too far off the winners list.
